Events
Parent’s evening
These take place each term and the child’s progress and targets are discussed. If extra meetings are necessary they can be arranged with individual class teachers at a mutually convenient time.
Sports Day
This is held in the Summer term and takes the form of “Potted Sports” where each child has a go at ten different activities. We feel this is better than having to sit waiting to take part in races.
Pantomime
Each year the children are taken to the Assembly rooms to watch the pantomime. This gives them an opportunity to experience live theatre performances.
School visits
Each year group may arrange to go on a school visit during the year, usually in the Summer Term, and these are related to the Topic being studied, to re-inforce and support the children’s learning in school.
Favourite venues include Twycross Zoo, Snibston Discovery Park, Conkers, Crich Tramway Museum and White Post Farm
Parents are often asked to help on such occasions, and will be approached by the class teachers.
Visiting Groups
We try to arrange for as many different groups to visit the school during the year as possible to supoport the children's learning in many different ways. These will include artists, musical groups, theatre groups, the fire service, Church groups to lead assemblies, and any other organisations who can help with the children's education.
March 2009
After weeks of collecting points from Morrisons we were able to order a wide range of garden equipment which was presented to the school by Bob Laxton MP (pictured below with a representative from Morrisons, Mr Clark who runs our gardening club, and some of the Year 2 children.
July 2009
Every Summer term a local artist, Caroline MacFarlane comes to school to work with the year 2 children on pencil portrait drawing. She works with groups over the period of 2 or 3 days and teaches the children how to look at a model, how to represent what they see on paper and how to get the portrait looking good.
She uses real life models, who have to be able to sit relatively still for long periods of time. In recent years she has used our teaching assistants, dinner ladies and other adults in school. This year she was able to use some year 10 pupils who were in school on work experience from one of our local secondary schools.
The portraits the children produce are excellent, and sometimes give us a real surprise at how carefully they have listened to Caroline's instructions, and some show a real flair for portrait drawing.
Thanks to Caroline for her contribution this year. The children really enjoy the sessions, and we look forward to welcoming Caroline back in Summer 2010.
