Events
Parent’s evening
These take place each term and the child’s progress and targets are discussed. If extra meetings are necessary they can be arranged with individual class teachers at a mutually convenient time.
Sports Day
This is held in the Summer term and takes the form of “Potted Sports” where each child has a go at ten different activities. We feel this is better than having to sit waiting to take part in races.
Pantomime
Each year the children are taken to the Assembly rooms to watch the pantomime. This gives them an opportunity to experience live theatre performances.
School visits
Each year group may arrange to go on a school visit during the year, usually in the Summer Term, and these are related to the Topic being studied, to re-inforce and support the children’s learning in school.
Favourite venues include Twycross Zoo, Snibston Discovery Park, Conkers, Crich Tramway Museum and White Post Farm
Parents are often asked to help on such occasions, and will be approached by the class teachers.
Visiting Groups
We try to arrange for as many different groups to visit the school during the year as possible to supoport the children's learning in many different ways. These will include artists, musical groups, theatre groups, the fire service, Church groups to lead assemblies, and any other organisations who can help with the children's education.
February 2008
For 2 days we had a lady from Afrikan Fusion in school working with all the children on African music and then with the year 2 children on African mask making.
Everyone involved enjoyed the opportunity to play different musical instruments and especially drums, and to learn more about the African continent.
The sheer joy on the children's faces as they battered away at the drums and created some very interesting rhythms was a pleasure to see.The year 2 children then spent a half day making their own version of an African mask. A messy and delightful process involving 'modrock'. Six adults supported each group of children and had as much fun as the children. (and got equally messy!!)
Drumming was fun!! |
